Accounting websites built for the anxious search.

Nobody looks for an accountant when things are calm. They search after the IRS letter arrives — frightened, at 11pm, using words from the notice. We build practice sites that answer those exact searches and turn them into booked consultations.

Buyer Behaviour

How tax and accounting clients actually search

The highest-value searches in this trade are frightened and extremely specific. Not "accountant near me" but "CP2000 notice what do I do," "offer in compromise Long Island," "IRS wage garnishment help," "unfiled returns back taxes." The person typing that has a letter in their hand and is using its exact language. They are not price shopping — they want somebody who obviously handles this precise problem.

This is why a single "Tax Services" page is the most expensive mistake in the trade. Each of those problems is a separate search with separate intent and a wildly different value. A practice with a dedicated page for each IRS issue it handles captures a dozen distinct queries; a practice with one services page captures none of them and competes only on "accountant near me," which is the most contested and least valuable term in the category.

The second pattern is seasonality, and it is the sharpest of any trade we work in. Search volume climbs from January, peaks in late March, and collapses in May. Ranking takes roughly ninety days — so a site that launches in February has already lost the season it was built for. Accounting builds want to be live and indexed by December. Resolution and advisory work is the counterweight: those searches run all year, and they carry far higher fees than seasonal prep.

Third, credentials do disproportionate work here. EA, CPA, CAA, PTIN, years in practice, and whether you can represent a client before the IRS are not decoration — they are the trust argument, and most competitor sites bury them on an About page nobody opens.

What one customer is worth

$250 individual return → $5,000+ resolution or representation case

A resolution case is worth twenty seasonal returns and arrives through a completely different search. That asymmetry is the whole argument for problem-specific service pages: the pages that cost the most to write are the ones that bring in the work worth having.

What you’re up against

  • Two very different competitors sit in these results. Local practices, which are usually easy to outrank because they have one services page and no content depth. And the national tax-resolution firms, which spend heavily on the resolution terms and are genuinely hard to displace on "offer in compromise" alone — but which cannot credibly claim to be local, and consistently lose the "{problem} + Long Island" and "{problem} + Suffolk County" variants.
  • That gap is the whole strategy. You will not win "tax resolution" nationally. You can absolutely win "offer in compromise Long Island," "IRS audit help Suffolk County" and "NYS tax warrant Long Island" — the searches where somebody specifically wants a person they can sit across a desk from.
  • New York State issues are a genuinely under-served niche. NYS tax warrants, sales tax audits and residency disputes have real search volume, almost no local content written about them, and clients who cannot use a national firm because the problem is state-specific. A page on each is unusually cheap to rank.
The Build

What a accounting practice site has to get right

These are the decisions that separate a accounting practice site that produces work from one that just exists. They are specific to this trade — a contractor site and an HVAC site want opposite things.

  • One page per problem, not per season

Tax prep, bookkeeping, payroll, back taxes, offer in compromise, audit representation, wage garnishment, NYS issues. Each is its own search and its own page.

  • Credentials in the header, not the About page

EA, CPA, CAA and representation rights are the trust argument. Somebody frightened by an IRS letter needs to see them in the first five seconds.

  • Free consultation booking on every page

The commitment gap between "I'm scared" and "I've hired an accountant" is enormous. A free fifteen-minute call is the step people will actually take.

  • Secure document handling, stated plainly

You're asking for W-2s, returns and Social Security numbers. Say how that's protected, or people email them insecurely — or don't send them at all.

  • Separate paths for individuals and businesses

A sole proprietor with a garnishment notice and a construction company needing monthly bookkeeping want different pages and different language.

  • Plain English about a frightening subject

The practices that convert are the ones that explain what an offer in compromise actually is. Reproducing IRS phrasing back at somebody who's already confused loses them.

Questions

Questions from accounting and tax practices

By December, and ideally by November. Ranking takes roughly ninety days, and search volume climbs from January and peaks in late March. A site that goes live in February is indexing while the season it was built for is already running. If you're reading this in spring, build for resolution and advisory terms — those run year-round — and be ready for the next season properly.
